What are the different types of welding?
MIG
The Metal Insert Gas welding (MIG) process uses electricity to melt and join pieces of metal. The MIG process is usually versatile and can be used to weld many different metals. MIG welding can be used for jobs on carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and more.
As well as many other alloys. For professional and amateur welding, MIG welding is the best solution for most but not all jobs. MIG welding is similar to the ARC welding process but it does not require welding rods, making it more refined and suited to the welding of very thin sheet metals, for example, car body panels.
ARC
ARC welding fuses two or more pieces of metal together by an electrical arc formed by current flowing directly across the gap between the metal being welded and an arc welding rod. ARC welding uses high operator input so overall uses inexpensive equipment, and it can use specialist electrodes allowing your work to be more versatile.
MMA
MMA welding (Manual Metal Arc) is a frequently used welding technique. It involves making an arc between a workpiece and a metal-coated electrode. This form of welding can produce more power than MIG welding.
TIG
TIG (Tungsten Insert Gas) is much like ARC and MIG welding. An arc is formed between an electrode and workpiece as in ARC, and shielding gas is used as in MIG welding. TIG welding is very detailed, disciplined, and capable of giving high-quality welds on most types of metal. The process does include more practice and skill as opposed to the others. Advantages of TIG welding include it is very adaptable and allows very good control. As well as that, there are no sparks or spatter to clean and low fumes. It can also weld very thin metals.
What is Duty Cycle?
Duty Cycle is the percentage of time that a machine will weld safely at a given current before it will switch to thermal overload and cool down. for example, a duty cycle of 180amps at 30% will output 180amps for 3 minutes before it overheats within a 10 minute time period. A cooling period must then be maintained before continuing operation. At lower amperage, the duty cycle of the machine should increase.
